Polruan is an old fishing village situated on the south coast of Cornwall overlooking Fowey Harbour. Little fishing remains but there is a busy boat building and repair yard.
Bosun's has superb views across the estuary to Fowey (pronounced Foy) and you can watch the hustle and bustle of the passenger ferry, the Boddinnick ferry in the distance and the continual movement of ships which load china clay just up the river for export. The larger vessels are escourted by the Fowey Harbour Commissioner's two powerful tugs. In addition to the commercial traffic there is a thriving yachting community with many visiting yachts and if you wish you can join a river cruise or go sea fishing.
The village of Polruan boasts two pubs (within 150 yards), a general store, post office and cafe. There is a regular passenger ferry service across the river to Fowey which is a much larger community with some lovely restaurants, shops and good pubs.
Access to Bosun's is via the narrow lane known as West Street. Only small cars can actually pass the front door.
